Advanced Infrastructure Design, Inc. (AID) is an established consulting firm, specializing in material testing, evaluation, and design of transportation infrastructure that utilizes cutting-edge technology and is led by a team of scientists and engineers. AID is looking to hire a Lead Materials Inspector and Laboratory Manager to work on roadway and bridge projects. This is an on-site position in Hamilton, New Jersey.

Position

This opportunity is a full-time position with a competitive salary and attractive benefits. The primary responsibilities for this position involve leading a team of construction material inspectors and managing the operations of an AASHTO-certified concrete, asphalt, and soils laboratory. Testing and inspection are primarily performed on roadways, bridges, and material plants. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Managing a construction material testing laboratory, including scheduling, and assigning lab testing, performing Quality Assurance (QA), reviewing, and submitting testing reports, maintaining lab records and accreditation, coordinating and performing lab equipment calibration and standardization, and ensuring that the laboratory operates in compliance with the applicable ASTM, AAHSTO, ACI, NICET, and OSHA standards and procedures. The materials tested in AID’s laboratory include asphalt, concrete, soil, and aggregates.
  • Leading, managing, and mentoring a team of construction materials inspectors.
  • Coordinating and scheduling materials field inspection tasks.
  • Performing materials inspection, construction inspection, and laboratory testing.

      • ACI Certification (Preferred)
      • NICET (Preferred)
      • NJSAT (Preferred)
      • NICET (Preferred)
  • Coordinating work to ensure projects/contracts are properly managed, thereby assuring budgets and schedules are met, thereby ensuring the clients’ deliverables meet the client needs and the applicable standards, procedures, specifications, and best practices.
  • Preparing invoices and proposals for laboratory testing and inspection projects.
  • Acquiring new projects and proposal writing.
  • Communicating with clients, staff, and supervisors to successfully and consistently deliver high-quality construction materials testing and inspection services.
  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Providing clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Preparing inspection reports and documenting non-conformance.
  • Taking responsibility as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to oversee and ensure safe operation of nuclear density gauges and maintain records and calibration.
  • Providing support for engineering tasks, including geotechnical boring inspection, condition assessment of bridge structures, non-destructive testing, supervising concrete and asphalt coring operations, and pavement smoothness testing and analyses

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in materials testing, special inspection, construction management, and/or other construction-related engineering services. Laboratory management and project management experience are highly desirable.
  • Experience in radiation safety and nuclear density gauge operation (Preferred).
  • Experience in supervision of inspectors and technicians.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of construction materials, methods, and techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize, execute, and direct various sizes of projects.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, maintain composure, and work effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities.
  • Effective interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and in good standing.
  • Skilled in use of a computer and a working knowledge of MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Good work ethics, attention to detail, and a high level of personal integrity.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
